Prompt:
The hardest thing to come to terms with is the unexpected, when life just isn’t working out how you've planned. When the relationship doesn't work or the dream job lets you go, what do you do? What do you do when plans fall apart?
response:
If you're an optimist, you probably don't envision your plans falling apart, especially when they're going so well. On the flip side, you never realize how much of a pessimist you are until your plans fall completely apart, and you're not surprised at all. I should've been shocked when I found out my girlfriend was cheating on me. But deep down I always knew I wasn't her type. I'm the funny guy. The one who makes you gut laugh, whose sense of humor is so off the cuff you cough and cry- ugly with hysteria.
It means I’m cooler than any guy she’s ever dated (my opinion)- more able to control the tenor of the room, and more charismatic than any guy my height has a right to be.
Before me, she dated athletes almost exclusively- two basketball players, a wide receiver and a lacrosse player (that last one was shocking to me too). But with me she claimed she was in love. She said we had more chemistry than any other guy she'd ever been with. That I may not be her soulmate but I was definitely the closest thing. That was a direct quote. So anyway, I knew that I wasn't her usual type, but I wanted to believe in us, so I did. I made plans. That was my big mistake.
