Prompt:

No one can predict life, but we all try, don't we? How has life altered your plans?

response:

I thought I would be different. I thought I'd be married with three or four kids- a big house with a backyard and a nice car. Or maybe I’d live abroad, with a wardrobe that made no sense for the meaningful NGO work I was doing- my heels forever unreasonably high. My plan was to be a world away from where I sit now, in the kitchen of the house I grew up in. Life isn't as I thought it would be...

But maybe that’s okay. We always want to bend things to our will, keep life within parameters that will make us feel safe, loved, respected, esteemed— but maybe that’s not the point of life. Maybe the point is that we make mistakes, or outgrow our comfort zones, that we fail, and try again and fail some more, until we get it right. Maybe the plan isn’t the point, life is.
